Welcome home to a piece of Madison history.
It all began with an idea in 2012. The Heirigs family (Tom, Sheryl, Danny, Matt) purchased the former Madison Elementary school with the dream of expanding the availability of modern living spaces for the town.
Washington Elementary School, founded in 1924, is part of the national historical register. After outgrowing Madison's first school building, Washington School was built in 1924 to house kindergarten through eighth grade. Constructed adjacent to the original school, the brick building maintains its historic division of interior space. Other than replacement windows, it also retains all of its original exterior materials. It is also an excellent example of the standard school design commonly built in South Dakota in the 1920s. The elementary school closed in 2008.

Tom Heirigs, owner and veterinarian at Twin Lakes Animal Clinic, passed away on August 16, 2020. Tom was a beloved caretaker of the Lofts. His sons Matthew and Danny, and daughter-in-law Beth, lovingly maintain the apartments to this day.
